House Model Framing Construction

During Thanksgiving break I was thinking about our group’s model that was going to utilize a foam board material for the framing of the house. We all started to wonder the structural integrity of the foam board and if it would be strong enough for our application. To help contribute to our team project I began to construct the framing of the model out of plywood to ensure its durability and last the duration of the project.

I first gathered plywood I had at the house to make sure I had enough to build roughly the same size model our group had originally planned with the foam board. Then I was able to use my table saw and skill saw to cut the pieces to the desired size. Then at each corner of the house I added two-two-inch screws to help hold the house together. I predrilled the holes first to help tighten the joints when inserting the screw. Next, I was able to use two wooden panels as the roofing material. I used a mini nail gun to fasten only one panel down. For the second side I glued a block to the roof panel that would rest on the frame of the house to prevent from sliding off. The purpose of not fully attaching the second side of the roofing was to allow us to remove and access the interior where our water (rain) will be stored.

I had a small water pump that was from an interior water fall decoration and a section of clear vinyl tubing. These will allow us to pump water from a container inside the house to the roof where the water will be dispersed and be collected through our collection system. During our next working period we will be able to continue and apply the final phases to the house model.
